Dover Easter Docks reopen after security closure

Dover Eastern Docks has re-opened and the area around the port is back to normal following a security alert on Thursday 26 January.

Port of Dover Police temporarily closed the port and installed a 200 metre cordon at 4.45pm. This occurred after two men, one in a lorry and one in a van, entered Dover from France with a quantity of what’s now believed to be military collectors’ items on board.

As is standard procedure, Ministry of Defence bomb disposal experts were called in to assess the items. As soon as they were declared safe the docks were re-opened.

The men, a 44-year-old and 36-year-old, are being questioned by UK Border Agency officers.
